Broomlands

Broomlands House was used as the Norwegian Officers’ Mess, and this was where King Haakon dined during his visit to Dumfries in 1940. Only the gatehouse and stable building remain on New Abbey Road. Broomlands was built around 1820 to the design of notable local architect Walter Newall. Its facade with curved bay windows closely resembled that of Woodland House in Newbridge, which still exists and is a hotel.[1]
