The mansion house at Mouswald Place was used for training Norwegian officers and NCOs, but was also where some officer were billeted. Brothers Ingvar, Nils and Ola Haughovd were all whalers who were among those fleeing to Britain in 1940. While Nils joined the Norwegian Royal Navy, his brothers were drafted into the army at Dumfries, and Ingvar was stationed at Mouswald.
